Downie Island


Downie Island (53˚08'47" 132˚21'35" W end of W Narrows, Skidegate Channel, QCI). “Major” William Downie (1819–94), originally from Scotland, worked as a sailor, logger and storekeeper before becoming a miner in California—and, in 1849, the founder of Downieville.
