Duke Point (49˚09'00" 123˚53'00" Between Nanaimo Hbr and W side of Northumberland Channel). Named in association with Northumberland Channel (qv) by Cdr John Parry, who re-surveyed this area in 1903 in HMS Egeria. The channel, in turn, had been named by the officers of the HBC post at Nanaimo in 1853 because of the coal that had recently been discovered and was the reason for the establishment of a fort.
