Eemdyk Passage

Eemdyk Passage (48˚19'00" 123˚33'00" Between Bentinck I and S end of Vancouver I). The freighter Eemdyk, purchased by the Holland-America Line in 1915, ran aground near here in Oct 1925 in dense fog. The vessel was refloated after its cargo was removed, but the old steam tug Hope, which was carrying longshoremen back and forth between Victoria and the salvage operation, became fouled on one of Eemdyk’s mooring cables, then, tragically, capsized and sank, with the loss of six lives.
