Karl Ludwig Eik and three other Scandinavian prospectors—Ole Evindsen, Ole Pearson and Ernest Carlson—first staked the Dolly Varden claims near the head of Alice Arm in 1910. Five years later they sold their shares for $10,000 each to Chicago investors, who went on to develop a narrow-gauge mining railway and a rich but ultimately unsuccessful silver mine, 1919–21.
