Fairlie Point

Fairlie Point (53˚01'00" 132˚21'00" N side of Inskip Channel, NW Moresby I, QCI). Named by the hydrographic service in 1946 in association with Inskip Channel (qv). George Inskip, responsible for surveying this area in 1853 as master of HMS Virago, spent his early nautical career, 1839–43, under Capt Edward Garrett on the 686-tonne Fairlie, a venerable merchant vessel that traded in the E Indies and carried passengers between England and Australia.
