Flores Island

Flores Island (49˚20'00" 126˚10'00" Between Sydney Inlet and Millar Channel, Clayoquot Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Manuel Antonio Flores (c 1722–1799) was the 51st viceroy of New Spain (or Mexico), 1787–89. He was responsible for establishing the Spanish fort at Nootka Sd and dispatched the 1788 and 1789 expeditions of Estéban Martínez (who may have been his nephew) to Alaska and Nootka Sd, respectively.
