Franklin Island

Franklin Island (49˚28'00" 123˚55'00" Just W of Merry I, S entrance to Welcome Pass, Str of Georgia). Presumably named after Victoria-born William Thomas Franklin (1868–1955), first lighthouse keeper at Merry I, 1902–32. Will and his first wife, Mary Ann Clachar (1865–1941), pre-empted the rest of Merry I and did some modest farming. After Mary Ann’s death, Will remarried and remained on Merry I until 1953.
