Gil Islet (52˚43'00" 131˚47'00" N entrance to Darwin Sd, off E side of Moresby I, QCI). QCI historian Kathleen Dalzell reports that this feature is named after James Gill, a broker who applied for a large timber licence in the region in 1907. It is not known how the spelling of his name became altered. The area was later the site of several copper claims.
