Gotha Point


Gotha Point (48˚26'00" 123˚27'00" Tip of Coburg Peninsula, W entrance to Esquimalt Hbr, W of Victoria). Named after Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Gotha is a town in Thuringia, Germany. In the 17th century it was the capital of the duchy of Saxe-Gotha; later it became one of the two capitals of the duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Lt Cdr James Wood of HMS Pandora, who surveyed this area in 1847, also named nearby Saxe Point and Coburg Peninsula. Albert...
