Grant Point (53˚41'00" 129˚05'00" W end of Maitland I, Douglas Channel, SW of Kitimat). Marine engineer Gordon Fraser Grant (1843–1908), from NS, arrived on the Pacific coast about 1868. He was originally employed by the federal Dept of Marine and Fisheries on the construction of the Esquimalt drydock, then became chief engineer of CGS Sir James Douglas and, in 1892, CGS Quadra. He retired in 1907. Named in 1908 by Louis Coste, chief engineer of Canada’s Dept of Public Works. W
