After emigrating with his family from England to Australia, Washington Grimmer (1851–1930) travelled to Victoria in 1877 and sought gold in the Cariboo. In 1882 he bought the 600-ha N Pender I property of his brother Oliver Grimmer and put his Australian experience to good use by raising sheep.
