Harwood Island


Harwood Island (49˚52'00" 124˚39'00" NE side of Str of Georgia, just W of Powell R). Capt George Vancouver named this island after “a benevolent friend and an elegant scholar.” Capt John Walbran suggested that the person in question was RN surgeon Edward Harwood (d 1814), son of the classicist and biblical critic of the same name.
