Hemming Bay


Hemming Bay (50˚24'00" 125˚23'00" E side of E Thurlow I, Nodales Channel, N of Discovery Passage). Capt George Richards, in charge of Admiralty surveys on the BC coast, 1857–63, moved back to England in 1864 and was appointed the RN’s chief hydrographer. In honour of the occasion, his successor in BC, Lt Daniel Pender, named a number of features in this region after hydrographic dept employees in Britain, including draftsman Pinhorn L Hemming. Hemming had never been anywhere near the PNW....
