Higgins Passage


Higgins Passage (52˚28'00" 128˚41'00" Between Price I and Swindle I, NW of Bella Bella). David Williams Higgins (1834–1917), born at Halifax, NS, and raised in NY, founded a newspaper in San Francisco (The Morning Call) before coming to BC in 1858 to join the gold rush. He had been trained as a printer, and after working as a storekeeper in Yale, he moved to Victoria in 1860 and joined Amor de Cosmos’s British Colonist. Higgins married Mary Jane Pidwell (1846–1900) at Victoria in 1863....
