Howe Sound


Howe Sound (49˚25'00" 123˚23'00" NW of Vancouver and Burrard Inlet). Capt George Vancouver named this feature in 1794 after Adm Richard Howe (1726–99), later Earl Howe. Lord Howe, with HMS Queen Charlotte as his flagship, was the hero of a 1794 RN victory in the English Channel known as the Glorious First of June, in which his fleet attacked and subdued a superior French force and captured seven line-of-battle ships.
