Howse Island (52˚35'00" 129˚09'00" Entrance to Clifford Bay, W side of Aristazabal I). Cpl Alfred Richard Howse (1827–1909) was a member of the Columbia detachment of Royal Engineers, which served in BC 1858–63. He arrived at Victoria with his wife, Margaret Howse (1826–1883), and the main body of men aboard the Thames City in 1859.
