Hunter Point


Hunter Point (53˚15'00" 132˚43'00" N entrance to Cartwright Sd, SW end of Graham I, QCI). Capt George Vancouver named this feature in 1793 after his friend Dr John Hunter (1754–1809), superintendent of military hospitals at Jamaica, 1781–83, whom he met while stationed in the W Indies as a lt aboard HMS Fame. Hunter studied medicine at Edinburgh, and after his stint with the RN returned to the UK and settled down as a London physican. He published several medical works, including Diseases...
