Hyphocus Island (48˚56'00" 125˚32'00" SW side of Ucluelet Inlet, NW of Barkley Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Hyphocus was a Nuu-chah-nulth First Nation leader, chief of the Ucluelet band at the time the British ship Jenny visited these waters in 1795. The island is now a peninsula, connected to Vancouver I by a causeway in the early 1960s. It is the site of Ucluelet’s sewage treatment facility and is also being developed for luxury housing.
