Jesse Island


Jesse Island (50˚28'00" 126˚02'00" W of entrance to Blenkinsop Bay, E of Port Neville, Johnstone Str). HBC cashier Robert Jesse (1839–81) was stationed for many years at Victoria. He was born in Surrey, England, and came out to BC in 1858 aboard the HBC steamship Labouchere. Jesse married Matilda McNeill, a daughter of pioneer HBC shipmaster William McNeill, which made him the brother-in-law of George Blenkinsop, after whom the nearby bay is named.
