Jewell Island


Jewell Island (53˚15'00" 131˚59'00" Entrance to Skidegate Inlet, QCI). Named in 1945 after Ambrose Jewell, one of 22 passengers in the schooner Georgianna, wrecked in a gale in Skidegate Inlet in 1851. The vessel was stripped by a group of Haida, and the passengers and crew held for eight weeks before being ransomed by Capt Lafayette Balch of the Demaris Cove.
