Johnstone Strait (50˚27'00" 126˚00'00" Between the NE side of Vancouver I and the Cracroft Is, Hardwicke I, Thurlow Is and the mainland). James Johnstone (1759–1823) was master (later 1st lt) of HMS Chatham, the armed tender that accompanied Capt George Vancouver and HMS Discovery to the PNW, 1791–95. It was Johnstone, while exploring with the Chatham’s cutter in 1792, who found this important 110-km passage connecting the Str of Georgia to Queen Charlotte Sd and the open Pacific....
