Kelpie Point (51˚44'00" 128˚00'00" SE entrance to Hakai Passage, N end of Hecate I, S of Bella Bella). A kelpie is a shape-shifting Celtic water spirit, usually horselike in form, that is believed to haunt the rivers and lochs of Ireland and Scotland. The kelpie may appear, with preternatural noises and lights, to warn those who are about to drown, or it may cause the deaths of unfortunate victims by dragging them to deep water.
