Kirkland Island


Kirkland Island (49˚07'00" 123˚06'00" In the estuary of the main arm of the Fraser R, between Ladner and Lulu I). Edgar Frank Kirkland (1861–1927) came to BC from Ont as a youth and married Elizabeth Watson (1864–1924) at New Westminster in 1884. He bought this island in 1902 with his brother-in-law, John Robert Watson, diking it and turning it into a dairy farm. All the milk had to be taken by boat to the mainland for sale.
