Laithwood Island (53˚08'00" 129˚47'00" W side of Otter Passage, between Trutch I and Banks I). The name was adopted by the hydrographic service in 1950 to remember Thomas Laithwood, a carpenter’s mate aboard HMS Discovery on Capt George Vancouver’s historic voyage of exploration to the PNW, 1791–95.
