Lorne Islet


Lorne Islet (52˚17'00" 128˚06'00" E side of Return Channel, between Yeo I and Chatfield I, just N of Bella Bella). The 48-m, 260-tonne Lorne was one of the best-known, most powerful steam tugs ever to work the BC coast. Built in 1889 for industrialist James Dunsmuir at Victoria’s Laing Shipyards, it was designed to tow the large sailing vessels that found it difficult to enter and leave Juan de Fuca Str in adverse weather.
