Malahat (48˚32'53" 123˚33'55" Just N of Malahat Ridge), Malahat Ridge (48˚36'12" 123˚35'27" W side of Squally Reach, Saanich Inlet, NW of Victoria). Various meanings have been advanced for this First Nation name, including “place to get bait” and “infested with caterpillars.” The summit of the ridge, known as Yaas or Yos, is a sacred place to local Salish people.
