Mapleguard Point

Mapleguard Point (49˚28'00" 124˚44'00" E side of Deep Bay, NW of Bowser, E side of Vancouver I). This geographical feature was formerly known as Maple Point, but the name was changed to avoid duplication in 1923. Its rich covering of maples contrasted strongly with the prevailing conifers and made a useful landmark for avoiding offshore shoals. The 2004 edition of Sailing Directions, however, notes that “few maple trees remain.”
