Marrack Island


Marrack Island (53˚58'00" 130˚09'00" Part of the Gibson Group, between Pitt I and Kennedy I, S of Prince Rupert). RN surveyor Lt Daniel Pender named this feature in 1868 after William Marrack, who was serving on the Pacific Station at the time as a midshipman on HMS Pylades, under Capt Cecil Buckley. Marrack was promoted to capt in 1888 and later commanded HMS Calypso, 1891–95, while it was part of the RN’s training squadron. He became a rear adm in 1902. W
