Masterman Islands (50˚45'00" 127˚25'00" E of entrance to Hardy Bay, E of Duval I, just E of Port Hardy, NE side of Vancouver I). Capt George Richards named these islands about 1862 in association with Hardy Bay (qv), which had been named earlier, in 1850, after Vice Adm Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, who had been flag capt to Lord Nelson at Trafalgar. Masterman was the maiden name of Hardy’s mother, Nanny. W
