Matlahaw Point

Matlahaw Point (49˚23'00" 126˚29'00" SE end of Hesquiat Peninsula, between Nootka Sd and Clayoquot Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Chief Matlahaw (d 1876) of the Hesquiat First Nation was presented with a silver medal by the Canadian government for organizing rescue parties and saving the crew of the US barque Edwin, which ran onto the reefs off Hesquiat Hbr in Dec 1874.
