Matute Island (49˚42'00" 126˚38'00" In Kendrick Inlet, E side of Nootka I, W side of Vancouver I). The hydrographic service named this feature in 1934 after Spanish naval officer Juan Matute, who served at the Mexican port of San Blas and is believed to have made at least one voyage to Nootka Sd in the late 18th century (probably in 1790) as cdr of the storeship Aránzazu.
