Milnes Landing


Milnes Landing (48˚23'00" 123˚42'00" E side of the mouth of Sooke R, Sooke Hbr, S end of Vancouver I). Named in 1934 after Edward Milne (1857–1943), who had worked in Hong Kong for a Scottish sugar-refining company before coming to Montreal in 1883. There he married his fiancée, Janet Kerr (1858–1934), and the couple travelled to Victoria before buying land and farming at Sooke. They were joined by other family members, and the extended Milne clan played a major role in the development...
