Moore Head


Moore Head (52˚09'00" 131˚03'00" S side of E entrance to Houston Stewart Channel, N side of Kunghit I, QCI). Named in 1853 by Cdr James Prevost of HMS Virago, after his 2nd lt, Lewis James Moore, who assisted with the survey that year of Houston Stewart Channel. Moore commanded the paddle sloop Argus during the 1862 bombardment of Kagoshima, Japan, and was promoted to capt in 1863.
