Onward Point


Onward Point (53˚14'00" 131˚55'00" S side of Skidegate Inlet, NE end of Moresby I, QCI). The hydrographic service named this feature in 1946 after the pioneer schooner Onward, which the Cowgitz Coal Mining Co chartered in 1865 at Victoria to bring supplies to its workers at the Cowgitz Mine, located farther W. RN surveyor Lt Daniel Pender originally named this spot Welcome Point in 1866; it was also known locally as Mission Point. There were several other, later vessels named Onward on the BC...
