Orford Bay


Orford Bay (50˚36'00" 124˚52'00" E side of Bute Inlet, NE of Clipper Point, NE of Campbell R). This bay was once home to a Homalco First Nation winter village named Pí’pknech, which has been translated, mysteriously, as “white a little bit on the back end.” It is now the site of a Homalco reserve, a large salmon hatchery and, in late summer and fall, an increasingly popular grizzly bear viewing area. There is also a logging camp and booming ground nearby; 600 men lived and worked here...
