Orion Point (52˚07'00" 131˚01'00" N entrance to Heater Hbr, NE side of Kunghit I, QCI). The 29-m Orion was built in 1904 at Christiana, Norway, for Sprott Balcom’s Pacific Whaling Co and was the first steam whaler on the BC coast. Designed to be used from a shore station, it was based periodically at nearby Rose Hbr. The Orion had a long life in BC waters, seeing service off the W coast of Vancouver I in the 1910s and operating out of Kyuquot Sd and Naden Hbr for William Schupp’s Victoria...
