Osment Inlet


Osment Inlet (52˚32'00" 128˚42'00" Head of Kitasu Bay, SW side of Swindle I, NW of Bella Bella). Quartermaster-Sgt David Shorthose Osment (b 1830) was a member of the Columbia detachment of Royal Engineers, which served in BC 1858–63. Born at London, he learned carpentry from his father and joined the sappers in 1852. Osment participated in the Siege of Sevastopol during the Crimean War and was promoted to sgt in 1857.
