Payne Channel


Payne Channel (53˚20'00" 129˚28'00" Between Hinton I and SE side of Pitt I, N of Squally Channel). Dorothy Richardson Payne became a clerical assistant in the Victoria office of the hydrographic service in 1940. In 1944 it was proposed that another feature, a narrows SW of Kitimat, also be named for her, but this became Hoey Narrows after objections from hydrographic HQ in Ottawa.
