Portage Inlet


Portage Inlet (48˚27'40" 123˚25'10" NW of Gorge Waters, head of Victoria Hbr, just W of Victoria). This name was identified on Joseph Pemberton’s 1855 map of SE Vancouver I and on early Admiralty charts from the 1860s. An ancient First Nation trail led between the head of Portage Inlet and Thetis Cove on Esquimalt Hbr, across what is now Portage Regional Park in the municipality of View Royal.
