Royal Cove


Royal Cove (48˚44'00" 123˚22'00" N end of Portland I, SE of Saltspring I, Gulf Is). In 1978, when a name for this feature was required by BC’s parks branch, Royal Cove was suggested. This somewhat uninspired selection was meant to associate the cove with HMS Portland, after which Portland I (qv) is named, because the vessel was part of the Royal Navy.
