Royal Point


Royal Point (48˚25'10" 123˚24'50" SE of Saxe Point at Esquimalt, SE end of Vancouver I), Royal Roads (48˚25'00" 123˚27'00" Between Albert Head and Esquimalt Hbr, W of Victoria). The first European to explore this part of the BC coast was Spanish naval officer Manuel Quimper, in 1790. He gave the name Rada de Valdés y Bazan—after Antonio Valdés y Bazan, the Spanish minister of marine—to the feature now known as Royal Roads.
