Sasamat Lake (49˚19'00" 122˚53'00" E of Bedwell Bay, Indian Arm, Burrard Inlet, E of Vancouver). When the old name for this feature, Deer Lk, had to be changed in 1948 because of its proximity to Deer Lk in Burnaby, Maj J S Matthews, Vancouver’s city archivist, suggested Sasamat Lk. The name appears on a chart by Spanish explorer Dionisio Alcalá-Galiano, who explored Burrard Inlet in 1792 and sent two officers, Secundino Salamanca and Juan Vernaci, to examine Indian Arm.
