Sea Bird Point (48˚25'00" 123˚13'00" SE end of Discovery I, off Oak Bay and SE tip of Vancouver I). The 410-tonne US sidewheeler Sea Bird was built at NY in 1850, taken around Cape Horn to California and then, in 1857, transferred to Puget Sd, where its owners had secured a US mail contract. Under Capt Francis Conner, it became the second steamship to go up the Fraser R to Ft Hope during the 1858 gold rush.
