Seymour Narrows


Seymour Narrows (50˚09'00" 125˚21'00" Discovery Passage, N of Menzies Bay, NW of Campbell R). Rear Adm Sir George Francis Seymour (1787–1870) was cdr-in-chief on the Pacific Station, 1844–48, with HMS Collingwood as his flagship. At that time the station was based at Valparaiso, Chile. An aristocrat and son of a vice adm, Seymour rose rapidly through the RN ranks and saw considerable action, being seriously wounded at the Battle of St Domingo.
