Sherman Islet (53˚33'00" 130˚07'20" In Principe Channel, off S end of McCauley I, opposite E side of Banks I). Flying Officer Lawrence Sherman, from Vancouver, was killed in action on June 13, 1944, aged 24. He was a member of No 162 (Bomber Reconnaissance) Squadron and was awarded the DFC for attacking and sinking a U-boat with his Canso aircraft while under heavy fire. A day later he himself was shot down by another sub. Sherman is commemorated on England’s Runnymede Memorial.
