Skincuttle Inlet


Skincuttle Inlet (52˚20'00" 131˚13'00" SE side of Moresby I, S of Burnaby I, QCI), Skincuttle Island (52˚21'00" 131˚14'00" In Skincuttle Inlet, SW of the Copper Is). The name is a bastardization of the Haida term for the island, said by historians Helen and Philip Akrigg to be a compound of words meaning “seagull” and “to scoop.” This approximation of the name was originally applied about 1862 by early QCI mining engineer Francis Poole.
