Snake Island (49˚13'00" 123˚53'00" Between Rainbow Channel and Fairway Channel, NW of Gabriola I, Gulf Is). Cdr John Parry of HMS Egeria named this feature while re-surveying the Nanaimo area in 1904. Its previous name, given by Admiralty hydrographers about 1860, was Lighthouse I. There is a light beacon on Snake I, but the lighthouse for Nanaimo Hbr, established in 1875, was built on nearby Entrance I instead.
