Spakels Point


Spakels Point (54˚43'00" 130˚13'00" E side of Somerville I, Steamer Passage, near NW end of Khutzeymateen Inlet, N of Prince Rupert). According to William Flewin, a pioneer resident of Port Simpson, this name is a Tsimshian First Nation word meaning “to eat mussels.” At one time, apparently, a number of Tsimshian people died from eating tainted mussels gathered at this location, which is the site of a Tsimshian reserve.
