Stapledon Island (54˚12'00" 130˚17'00" E side of Lelu I, just S of Prince Rupert). Named in 1907 after Bartholomew Stapledon (1847–1914), a pioneer in the N coast salmon cannery trade and manager of the Inverness Cannery in the 1890s. A native of Chatham, NB, he came to Victoria from Que about 1883 with his Que-born wife, Jane (c 1846–1921, née Skillen), and their family.
