Subtle Islands


Subtle Islands (50˚07'00" 125˚05'00" In Sutil Channel, N end of Str of Georgia, NE of Campbell R). This name, a translation of the Spanish word sutil, honours the 18th-century Spanish naval vessel commanded by Dionisio Alcalá-Galiano. The Sutil and its consort, the Mexicana, passed through the region in 1792, in company with Capt George Vancouver’s vessels. See Cape Sutil for more information.
